South Korea’s Composite Consumer Sentiment Index fell 2.3 points to 104.5 in August 2026 from the previous month. Consumer sentiment regarding current living standards declined one point to 92, while sentiment about the future outlook fell one point to 97. Sentiment regarding future household income dropped one point to 100, while that concerning future household spending declined one point to 109. Consumer sentiment about current domestic economic conditions fell five points to 79, while sentiment regarding future domestic economic conditions declined three points to 89. Expected inflation over the next year was 2.7%, while three- and five-year inflation expectations were both 2.6%.

The Ibovespa added 0.5% to close at 171,907 on Monday, posting its fourth consecutive gain following eleven consecutive days of losses. Vale surged 2.8%, supported by higher iron ore futures in China amid new signs of stimulus from Beijing and expectations of stronger demand ahead of the peak construction season in September. Banks also gained as the Focus Survey forecast for the Selic rate at the end of 2026 remained at 13.75% for the third consecutive week. Banco do Brasil gained 0.9% and B3 added 2.4%. Bradesco (+0.2%) and Itaú (+0.3%) were little changed after central bank chief Gabriel Galípolo warned of rising household debt and cautioned against further stimulus to credit and consumption. Petrobras shed 2.3% as oil prices pulled back ahead of US sanctions on Iran. Braskem (-6.7%) confirmed an out-of-court restructuring. B3 said the company would be removed from its indexes.

Ibovespa Rises for Fourth Consecutive Session

The Dow Jones Index went up by 140 points or 0.26 percent on Monday to close at 53417 points. The rise was led by Visa (3.17%), Walmart (2.74%) and Walt Disney (2.70%). On the downside, the weakerst performers were Nvidia (-2.92%), Caterpillar (-2.03%) and IBM (-1.94%).

The Dow Jones Index Closes 0.26% Higher

The S&P/TSX Composite Index edged 0.3% higher to close at 36,714 on Monday despite the collapse of trade talks between the US and Canada. Canadian Prime Minister Carney said he would match US tariffs after the US imposed 50% tariffs on selected Canadian goods on Saturday. The new duties include furniture, plastics, plywood and electrical equipment, adding to existing tariffs on steel, lumber and autos. Manufacturers traded lower, with Magna International tumbling 6.6%, BRP down 6% and Linamar slumping 8.6%. Still, equities rose as higher gold prices supported mining shares, with Agnico Eagle adding 1.1%, Barrick rising 1.6% and WPM gaining 2.2%.
