Peru’s economy expanded 2.6% year-on-year in Q2 2026, slowing from 3.6% in Q1. Growth was supported by non-primary sectors, which increased 5.0%, while primary sectors contracted 5.2%. Construction remained the main driver, rising 8.9%, followed by commerce, which grew 7.3%, and electricity and water, up 5.6%. Services increased 4.7%. In contrast, manufacturing fell 5.0%, while mining and fuel declined 0.9%. Agriculture and livestock contracted 2.0%, after growing 1.5% in Q1, while fishing plunged 48.9%, following a 6.4% decline in the previous quarter. On a quarterly basis, GDP growth slowed from 3.6% in Q1 to 2.6% in Q2.

The Ibovespa jumped 1.8% to close at 171,032 on Friday, supported by a broad rally in financial stocks. The political landscape remained in focus ahead of a new Datafolha poll on Brazil’s October presidential election, due after the close. On Monday, a BTG/Nexus poll showed President Lula and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, viewed by markets as more fiscally restrictive amid elevated domestic yields and weak business activity, in a technical tie in a potential runoff. Bond yields fell on expectations of a tighter presidential race and broad-based weakness in the US dollar. Itaú rose 2.9%, Bradesco added 3.1%, Itaúsa gained 2.5%, and B3 jumped 5.2%. Utilities also advanced, with Axia up 1.4% and Sabesp rising 1.9%. Vale added 1.4% as iron ore prices firmed, while CSN Mineração (+4.8%), CSN (+7.6%) and Usiminas (+7.9%) rallied. Embraer (-1%) and Petrobras (-0.1%) were among the few laggards.

The Dow Jones Index gained 555 points or 1.05 percent on Friday to close at 53315 points. Gains were led by Goldman Sachs (3.94%), Merck (2.27%) and Salesforce (1.91%).

Brent crude oil was little changed around $97 a barrel on Friday, as investors assessed signs that Iran may be seeking an end to the conflict with the US. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran would prefer to conclude the war while it remains in a position of strength, describing the existing memorandum with Washington as a victory for Iran. The comments provided some relief after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US would impose its toughest-ever sanctions on Tehran and intensify economic pressure on the Iranian regime. Amidst the conflicting signals, oil prices rose more than 5% for the second week. Meanwhile, the US military said it had helped tankers transport more than 660 million barrels of crude through the Strait of Hormuz since early May, suggesting that substantial volumes continue to move through the critical energy corridor despite the conflict and heightened geopolitical risks.
