South Africa’s 10-year bond yield rose further to around 8.50%, the highest since mid-April, as traders weighed the latest inflation data and its implications on the interest rate trajectory. South Africa's inflation rate edged up to 3.1% in March from 3% in February, staying close to the SARB's 3% target and suggesting contained inflationary pressures. However, higher fuel prices stemming from the Middle East conflict are expected to push inflation higher from April. Speaking at the release of the April 2026 Monetary Policy Review, Governor Lesetja Kganyago stressed that the central bank will remain firmly committed to the country’s 3% inflation target, even as a fresh global shock threatens to derail the outlook. Headline inflation is expected to be higher in the near term and average 3.7% this year before easing back to target by late 2027. Kganyago added that monetary policy will be more cautious, warning that “overall, interest rates are likely to remain elevated for longer”.

South Africa 10-Year Bond Yield at Over 1-Week High

Slovenia’s unemployment rate edged down to 4.9% in February 2026 from 5% in the previous month. The number of unemployed persons decreased 2,336 month-on-month to 45,760. The unemployment rate for women was 5.2%, compared with 4.6% for men. By age group, unemployment stood at 7.4% for those aged 15-29, 5% for those 50 and older, and 6.1% for those 55 and above. For comparison, the jobless rate was 4.9% in February of the previous year. Meanwhile, employers reported 11,713 job vacancies, 4.7% fewer than a year ago, and 23,665 openings over the first two months of 2026, lower by 6.9% from the same period last year.

Slovenia Unemployment Rate Falls in February

Frankfurt's DAX 40 pared some early gains to trade around 24,300 on Wednesday, as uncertainty over the Middle East conflict persisted even after US President Donald Trump announced an extension to the ceasefire with Iran to allow time for a full agreement. But he also said that the US would maintain the naval blockade of Iran's trade flows, which is considered an act of war by Tehran. An Iranian adviser called the ceasefire extension a pretext for a surprise attack, while reports pointed to renewed incidents in the Strait of Hormuz. Tech stocks remained at the forefront. Infineon surged 3.2% and Siemens rose 1.5%, supported by strong first-quarter figures from ABB and gains in chipmaker ASM. On the downside, Deutsche Telekom slipped 3.1% to the bottom after reports emerged that it is weighing a full merger with its US mobile arm, T-Mobile US.

DAX Trims Gains

The annual inflation rate in Lebanon rose to 17.3% in March 2026, accelerating from 12.3% in the previous month. This marked the highest reading since December 2024, mainly driven by faster price growth in food and non-alcoholic beverages (19.4% vs 16.0% in February), housing and utilities (20.3% vs 14.8%), transportation (24.8% vs 6.0%), health (2.2% vs 2.0%), furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (5.1% vs 4.3%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (8.7% vs 7.4%), recreation, amusement, and culture (42.7% vs 30.3%), restaurants and hotels (11.3% vs 7.9%), and miscellaneous goods and services (14.6% vs 13.6%). Meanwhile, inflation moderated for clothing and footwear (2.4% vs 3.9%), while it remained steady for education (-35.7%) and communication (-1.6%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 4.9% from 1.9%, the highest since October 2023.
