The Ibovespa fell 1.7% to close at 177,513 on Friday amid another batch of second-quarter 2026 earnings reports. Petrobras shed 3%, erasing earlier gains despite delivering one of its strongest earnings reports in recent quarters and beating expectations, as much of the strong performance had already been priced in and uncertainty remained over its sustainability. Localiza also fell 0.8% despite reporting R$1 billion in net profit, up 30.6% from a year earlier. Magazine Luiza dropped 3.7% following weak results and concerns over profitability, while Renner plunged 8.1% after cutting its guidance amid concerns about sales. Elsewhere, Vale fell 0.6% despite higher iron ore prices. Banks also declined broadly, led by Bradesco, down 2.2%, and Itaú Unibanco, which fell 2.6% ahead of the release of the Copom minutes on Tuesday, which are expected to provide further insight into the monetary authority's outlook for the Selic rate.

Brent crude oil rose above $83 per barrel on Friday, but still recorded a more than 7% decline over the week. Prices remained highly sensitive to developments surrounding a potential Iran-Oman agreement to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which could return millions of barrels of Middle Eastern oil to global markets. Oil reversed some gains in post-settlement trading after reports that the US could lift its naval blockade once commercial shipping through the strait resumes without restrictions. However, uncertainty persisted, with Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. reporting attacks on three vessels transiting Hormuz and Iran reportedly targeting vessels it considers hostile. President Donald Trump maintained that negotiations were progressing, but differences remain over conditions for reopening the waterway. Meanwhile, Iran-backed Houthis claimed a large-scale attack against Saudi-aligned forces in Yemen.

The Dow Jones Index gained 152 points or 0.28 percent on Friday to close at 54037 points. Gains were led by Salesforce (2.47%), Nvidia (2.33%) and Honeywell International (2.28%). Biggest losers were Visa (-2.20%), Chevron (-1.49%) and Caterpillar (-1.46%).
