Israel's annual inflation rate fell to 1.8% in January 2026, its lowest level since June 2021, from 2.6% in December. The reading fell toward the mid-point of the Bank of Israel's 1%-3% target, remaining in the range for the sixth consecutive month. Deflation took place for clothing and footwear (-7.7% vs -8.0% in December 2025) and furnishings and household equipment (-4.0% from
-3.3%.) Meanwhile, price growth slowed notably in transport and communication (0.2% vs. 2.7%), education, recreation and culture (1.4% vs. 2.0%), and dwelling maintenance (1.8% vs. 3.3%). Upward pressure stemmed mainly from higher prices for housing (3.8% vs. 3.7%), fruits and vegetables (2.3% vs. 2.0%), and health (2.3% vs. 2.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.3%.

The Italian FTSE MIB closed the session loosely unchanged at 45,419 on Monday, tracking smaller movements in other European bourses amid the lack of catalysts and thin trading due to holidays in North America and Asia. Heavyweight banks led the gains in the session as the recent pullback in bond yields aided the outlook of credit activity in the Euro Area, with BPER and BPM adding more than 1% each. In turn, stocks in the technology sector fell amid lingering uncertainty on how disruptive AI technology will impact established sectors and concerns that datacenter capacity investments may have been overdone. STMicroelectronics tracked the poor session for companies in AI infrastructure and fell 2%.

FTSE MIB Closes Flat

European stocks closed mixed on Monday, holding the muted momentum from the previous week as markets continued to gauge how a stronger euro and the outlook of unchanged base rates will impact the European economy. The STOXX 50 closed flat at 5,985 and the pan-European STOXX 600 inched 0.1% higher to 618, not far from the record high touched last week. Trading volumes were thinner due to holidays in North America and China, but industrial giants maintained their volatile momentum on the unclear impact of AI disruption. Software companies held most of their losses on displacement from AI automation tools, with Dassault Systemes sliding close to 10% after brokers downgraded their recommendation. In turn, infrastructure operators Siemens and Schneider dropped 6.4% and 4%, respectively. In turn, banks closed firmly higher, with Santander, BBVA, and Nordea adding more than 2%.

European Stocks Close Muted on Thin Trading

The FTSE MIB Index rose 42 points or 0.09 percent on Monday to close at 45473 points. Leading the gains are Leonardo SpA (3.70%), Tenaris (2.91%) and Saipem (2.63%). Top losers were Interpump Group (-5.40%), Nexi (-2.91%) and Diasorin (-2.60%).
