China’s exports surged 14.1% year-on-year to USD 359.44 billion in April 2026, much faster than forecasts of 7.9% and accelerating sharply from March’s 2.5% rise, which was the weakest growth since October 2025. The acceleration in growth came as companies rushed to stockpile components from the manufacturing powerhouse amid fears that the Iran war could push input costs even higher.

China’s imports rose 25.3% year-over-year in April 2026, slowing from a 27.8% jump in the prior month but outperforming market estimates of 15.2%.

China Import Growth Beats Expectations

China’s trade surplus narrowed to $84.82 billion in April 2026 from $95.85 billion in the same period of 2025, surpassing market expectations of $83.3 billion. Export growth accelerated sharply to 14.1%, reaching $359.44 billion, up from March’s 2.5% rise and much faster than forecasts of 7.9%, due to seasonal factors, as companies rushed to stockpile components from the manufacturing powerhouse amid fears the Iran war could push input costs even higher. Meanwhile, imports surged 25.3% year-on-year to a record $274.62 billion, above expectations of 15.2%.

China Trade Surplus Narrows in April

Colombia’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 5.68% in April 2026 from 5.56% in the previous month, above market expectations of 5.63% and marking the highest reading since September 2024. Over the past 12 months, the largest price increases were recorded in restaurants and hotels (9.61%), health (8.21%), education (7.58%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (6.91%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (6.71%), miscellaneous goods and services (6.11%), and furniture and household maintenance (5.79%). Meanwhile, inflation remained below the national average for transport (4.95%), information and communication (4.88%), housing and utilities (4.11%), clothing and footwear (2.67%), and recreation and culture (2.52%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.78% in April, matching the pace recorded in March.
