Peru's economy expanded 3.2% year-on-year in Q4 2025, down from 3.8% in Q3 and marking the eighth consecutive yearly expansion, supported by strength in domestic demand (5.2%). Private consumption rose (3.1% vs 3.6% in Q3), driven by higher employment and increased labor income. Government spending slowed (1.5% vs 4.7%), fueled by higher expenditures on public administration and defense, as well as on public education and public health. Gross fixed investment increased faster (10.8% vs 10.7%), with public and private investment rising by 5.8% and 12.3%, respectively. Meanwhile, net trade contributed modestly to GDP, as exports rose 5.3% and imports increased 11.6%. By sector, output grew mainly in transformation (4.7%), services (3.4%), and extractive industries (0.0%). On a seasonally adjusted basis, the economy grew by 0.6%.

Peru Economy Grows for 8th Consecutive Quarter

The FTSE MIB rose 0.5% to 46,699 on Monday, outperforming its European peers on positive corporate developments and some resilience from the heavy-weight financial sector. Enel surged 6.8% after unveiling a €53 billion 2026–28 investment plan targeting grids, renewables, and customer growth, in addition to announcing a €1 billion share buyback. Additionally, Moncler added 1.8%, extending the 14% surge in the previous session on continued support from its strong Q4 earnings report posted last week. Also, Tenaris rose 2.1% after Stifel raised its target price to $57 (from $45) and maintained a Buy rating. BPM, Unipol, and Generali added close to 1% to consolidate some resilience for the financial sector on a strong session for BTPs, although UniCredit and Intesa Sanpaolo closed marginally below the flatline. Lastly, industrials were mostly lower as the EU suspended the implementation of its trade deal with the US as President Trump imposed new tariffs on new economic emergency schemes.

FTSE MIB Nears Record High as Enel Surges

European stock indices edged lower on Monday from their record highs in the previous session on fresh trade uncertainty and concerns of AI displacement. The Eurozone's STOXX eased 0.3% to 6,115 and the pan-European STOXX 600 dropped 0.5% to 630. SAP and Adyen led the losses with declines of 3.4% and 5.4%, respectively, tracking their counterparts in US exchanges as concerns that improving AI automation tools will pressure demand for software and payment services. In the meantime, auto producers sank as the European Union paused the ratification of the trade deal with the US after the White House stated it would reintroduce tariffs through new economic emergency measures. The move followed the US's Supreme Court strike-down of country-specific tariffs that prompted the trade agreement last year. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen fell between 3% and 1.5%. On the other hand, Enel surged 6.8% after publishing its new investment plan and announcing a €1 billion share buyback.

European Stocks Ease from Records

The FTSE 100 fell slightly on Monday after the UK benchmark notched its best week of the year, as renewed tariff uncertainty weighed on investor sentiment. Confusion returned after the Supreme Court struck down Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariff policy, leading him to announce 10% global tariffs before revising them to 15%, unsettling markets at the start of the week. Relx lost more than 2.5% and BAE Systems over 1%, while banks including Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group and NatWest fell 0.5% to 2.4%. On the upside, JD Sports jumped more than 4% on a £200 million buyback plan. Precious metals supported miners, with Endeavour Mining and Fresnillo rising 6.5% and 3.2%, while Antofagasta, Anglo American and Glencore also gained.
