The Ibovespa kept the small gains, trading around 158,500 on Friday after Brazilian lawmakers passed the final budget of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s term.  The 2026 budget, preserved the administration’s goal of a primary fiscal surplus, excluding interest payments, quivalent to 0.25% of GDP. Petrobras rose 0.4% on higher oil prices, while Vale also gained 0.4% as iron ore advanced, supported by expectations that Chinese steelmakers will step up restocking ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday in February. Utilities traded mixed, with Axia down 0.4% and Sabesp up 0.3% after approving the payment of R$1.798 billion in interest on equity. Major banks were mostly higher, led by Itaú, up 0.3%, and Bradesco, up 0.2%. WEG and Embraer both advanced more than 1%. On the downside, Rede D’Or fell over 8% and Ambev dropped more than 5% after both shares went ex-dividend on Thursday.

Ibovespa Holds Modest Gains After Budget Passage

The Dow Jones Index went up by 149 points or 0.31 percent on Friday to close at 48101 points. The rise was led by Nvidia (3.81%), Boeing (2.79%) and Goldman Sachs (1.87%). On the downside, the weakerst performers were Nike (-10.44%), Home Depot (-2.70%) and Sherwin-Williams (-1.44%).

US stocks closed sharply higher on a triple-witching Friday, with the S&P 500 rising 0,9%, the Nasdaq 100 gaining 1.4%, and the Dow Jones adding more than 180 points, extending gains from the previous session as technology stocks outperformed. The AI-related trade showed signs of recovery, led by Oracle, whose shares jumped more than 7% after TikTok agreed to sell its US operations to a new joint venture involving Oracle and private-equity firm Silver Lake. Micron Technology advanced 7%, building on its 10% surge on Thursday. Also, Nvidia shares climbed more than 3% after Reuters reported that the Trump administration is reviewing whether the company could sell its advanced AI chips to China. On the downside, Nike shares plunged 11% after the company reported weaker revenue in China, while higher tariffs weighed on gross margins.

US Stocks Close Higher

The Central Bank of Colombia kept its benchmark rate unchanged at 9.25% in November 2025. Four board members supported holding rates, while two favored a 50 bp cut and one backed a 25 bp reduction. The board noted that inflation in October remained above end-2024 levels and that inflation expectations one and two years ahead increased. GDP grew 3.4% year-on-year in the third quarter, above forecasts, driven by a 5.6% expansion in total consumption. Policymakers also cited fiscal uncertainty following the failure to approve the Financing Law and a current account deficit of 2.4% of GDP in the third quarter. Despite accommodative global financial conditions after further US rate cuts, elevated geopolitical risks persist. The bank reaffirmed a cautious stance, with future decisions guided by inflation dynamics, economic activity, and domestic and external risks.
