Chinese officials pledged more support for exporters hit by U.S. President Trump’s tariffs. At a briefing on Monday, Beijing outlined policies to aid struggling exporters, including ensuring access to loans and boosting domestic consumption to offset the impact of U.S. levies. It was the most detailed response since the start of Trump’s second term, as shipments to the U.S. continue to fall. “Since the beginning of this year, the risks and challenges faced by China’s foreign trade development have increased significantly, especially the unilateral tariffs imposed by the US,” said Sheng Qiuping, vice-minister of commerce. He added that China would take a "goal-oriented and problem-oriented approach" to support foreign trade firms. While the measures target immediate trade pressures, Beijing signals it won't rush into broader stimulus or deals, even as tariffs threaten to stall bilateral trade and damage a sector that contributed near a third of last year’s economic growth.

Retail sales in Lithuania increased by 0.1% year-on-year in March 2025, slowing from a downwardly revised 2.1% growth in the previous month. This marked the softest rise in retail trade since January 2024, as sales declined sharply for food, beverages, and tobacco (-4.2% vs. 1.9% in February). Additionally, sales of automotive fuel fell further, dropping by 12.4% compared to a 9.5% decrease in the previous month. Meanwhile, sales accelerated slightly for non-food products (10.3% vs. 8.4%) and other retail sales at non-specialized stores (31.9% vs. 30.8%). On a monthly basis, retail sales edged up by 0.9%, following a 0.8% increase in February.

Lithuania Retail Sales Growth Slows in March

Producer prices in Sweden fell by 0.3% year-on-year in March 2025, following a 3.4% increase in the previous month. This marks the first decline since October, primarily due to a renewed drop in the prices of energy-related products (-8.6% vs. 8.4% in February). At the same time, producer inflation slowed for consumer goods (1.9% vs. 3.2%) and capital goods (0.3% vs. 1.6%). Excluding energy-related products, producer prices were 1.1% higher than the same period last year. On a monthly basis, the PPI fell by 3%, the biggest drop since January 2023, following a 0.1% decline in February. The largest negative contribution in the domestic market came from lower prices on trade services for electricity, while the main contribution to the decrease in the import market came from lower crude oil prices.

Sweden Producer Prices Fall in March

Retail sales in Denmark rose by 1.6% year-on-year in March 2025, recovering from a 0.1% fall in the previous month. The rebound was mainly due to increased sales for clothing (3.5% vs -3.3% in February) and other consumer goods (5.9% vs 2.2%). Meanwhile, trade declined at a faster pace for food and other groceries (-3.4% vs -2.4%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail activity decreased by 0.1% in March, marking the first drop in four months, reversing a 0.8% advance in the preceding period.
